How Can You Tell If Your Car Has a Faulty Engine Speed Sensor?

Vehicle speed sensors are part and parcel of modern car technology these days. Every car and motorised vehicle will have one, though some will be more refined than others. Generally speaking the more expensive the car, the more refined the speed sensor. However, this extra refinement can come at a cost. Speed sensors have a habit of going wrong, and when they do they can cause all sorts of problems.

So what does a vehicle's sensor do?
A vehicle's engine sensor or vehicle sensor as it is better known, sends information to a car's computer and tells it how fast the car's engine is spinning at any given moment. The speed sensor does this by recording how fast the crankshaft of a vehicle is spinning. Unfortunately speed sensors are not infallible and do go wrong from time to time.

What sort of problems can faulty engine sensors cause?
A faulty vehicle speed sensor can cause a number of problems. The problem often is that these faults or symptoms can be very difficult to diagnose. Sensor faults can appear similar in many ways to other vehicle faults like a defective coil pack or a bad throttle position sensor. In fact the symptoms can often be identical. That's why it's probably always best to consult an expert. However, there are certain common symptoms that generally can be solely attributed or associated with a bad engine sensor:

Transmission revs higher before it changes gears
The car's transmission engages into overdrive late and sometimes will never go into that top gear
Brakes are sometimes harder than normal when coasting
Speedometer behaves erratically or sometimes does not work at all
The check engine light comes on intermittently and sporadically when accelerating
The overdrive on/off light blinks on and on for no apparent reason
How to test the robustness of a vehicle speed sensor
If a car is experiencing any of the above symptoms, it is always best if you take your car into a local garage and ask them to run computer diagnostic tests on the vehicle to see if the speed sensor is functioning correctly. Common faults can often be incorrectly diagnosed as major problems when in fact they are just minor issues. Though some of the problems may seem to be transmission-related, it is generally better to take the vehicle to a garage that has complete computer diagnostic equipment before going to a specialty repair shop and carrying out unnecessary expensive repair work.

How To Lease A Car And Understand The Process

You think you've decided to lease, but you'd like to make sure you know HOW to lease a car! What exactly do I do after I see the newspaper ads that tell me what deal is available. At first, there may be a sense of overwhelm but leasing can be clearly made simple and understood. What exactly is the process of leasing? Leasing is not renting, but rather paying for the depreciated value of the automobile during the period that the leasing company allows you to drive it. All major manufacturers have a parent leasing company that seems invisible as they work side by side with the dealership. Most leases are for a period of 24, 36 or 48 months although some use an odd number like 39 months. This is referred to as the term. You are responsible for paying the depreciated value of the car along with an interest rate (they bought the car for you remember?). There is always a limit to the number of miles per year you can drive usually 12,000 (sometimes 10,000 or 15,000).

You think you've decided to lease but you'd like to make sure you know HOW to lease a car! Knowing how to lease a car means you'll need to know some leasing terms: cap cost, adjusted cap cost, terms, and money rate. I'll explain these below!

1) How do I know I'm getting a good deal?

Know this! The price, or MSRP of the car is negotiable in a lease, just like when you buy (although some salespeople may wish you didn't know this!). In leasing terms, the MSRP is called the Capital (Cap) Cost. Do your research and find the invoice price (there are many good sources online such as Edmunds.com) and always negotiate UP from the invoice, (not DOWN from the MSRP. After subtracting your trade in and any other negotiated money off the cap cost, your leased amount will be the adjusted cap cost.

2) What aspects of the lease can I control and which are fixed?

The leasing agent sets certain parameters that can't be negotiated. The residual is the amount the leasing agent determines the car will be worth when the lease is completed. The higher residual means less depreciation and therefore the less you'll pay when leasing. Anything over 50% residual is considered an excellent (Good for you!).

The money rate is the financing rate (interest rate). This is usually a number after a decimal point, like.00253 (to convert this to APR that is understandable, always multiply this figure by 2400..00253 X 2400 = 6.07%APR Rates should be competitive with new car interest rates.

3) What should I know before I walk into a dealership?

Definitely know your sticker price and invoice price. Know your terminology. If you know the details of leasing the salesman won't play games with you. Ask the money rate, residual and terms and negotiate as you would when buying a new car. There are excellent car lease calculators online that can ensure that your numbers add up to the same numbers you are getting from the salesman when you are given all the information.

Avoiding Car Theft

It is a sad fact that car theft happens on a daily basis. There are some cities where cars being stolen is more common than not, but are we to blame for these crimes? Sometimes, the answer to that question is yes. We are usually at fault for stolen vehicles for a number of reasons. Read on to find out how best to avoid car theft, because no one wants their car stolen.

The first thing to keep in mind is that carjacking is an incredibly lucrative business. There is a reason why there are so many Grand Theft Auto games and movies about car theft. While it is illegal, stealing vehicles makes the big bucks.

You should know to never leave your keys in your car, but some people have decided that this is okay, for some reason. Leaving your keys in your car is basically like handing them over to the criminal and telling him, "Enjoy!" A related scenario is leaving your car unlocked, or even hiding another set of car keys somewhere within your vehicle. These are among the worst things you can do, because you are practically waving a flag and telling people to steal your car.

If you think that any of those car security devices work, you should look into the facts. Items like the club steering wheel lock or the brake pedal lock are ineffective because professional thieves can take a saw to your steering wheel or brake pedal. Yes, this may take some time, but sometimes these crooks have all the time in the world to get their work done. Think about how much time you spend at work without going to your car. Using an audible car alarm is also a bad idea for several reasons. For one, you are contributing to noise pollution, and honestly, they do not work. All they do is make a lot of noise, but if you are in a building, you may not hear it until it is too late.

These next tips may be no-brainers, but sometimes we all need reminders. Be sure to park your car in a well-lit area and always lock it, even if you are parking at home. Do not ever leave your car running while you go into a building "really quick." Check your windows before leaving your car to make sure they are tightly shut. Never leave your valuables in plain sight, and better yet, do not leave them in the car at all.

Keep in mind that if you use your surroundings effectively, you can avoid car theft. Use your garage as it is meant to be used: to park your car inside it safely. If you do not have a garage, try pulling your car in as close to your house as you can. Making your car more difficult to steal will likely save you from unnecessary theft. Also consider parking a less desirable car behind your own to make it even more complicated for criminals to steal your car. If your vehicle is on a list of cars that thieves covet, you should definitely consider doing this. Be sure to keep your car insurance updated in case of theft.

How To Get Out Of A Car Lease Without (Too Much) Regret!

You've loved your leased car but the payments are steeper than you thought to manage. Or maybe you've just been transferred overseas. Or, maybe you just decided you really just don't like driving this car as much as you thought you would! You know that getting into the lease was pretty easy but getting out maybe be a bit more difficult.

It's true that getting out of a car lease is not as easy as paying a penalty fee (like you might if you wanted to end a cell phone agreement) and giving back the car. Those payments that you make every month were calculated on a legal binding agreement and breaking that agreement will be costly. However, the closer you are to the end of the lease, the less it will cost to end it. Find your lease agreement and read ALL the fine print on the back to find out how your leasing company will charge you. The fees will likely be heavy and it may cost up to thousands of dollars to rid yourself of your agreement.

Often the best option is to transfer a lease to someone else. It might seem easy to just let a friend or family member take the car and make the payments but you must transfer the agreement legally to be able to be free and clear of all liability in the event the car was in an accident.

There are companies that work with matching up individuals who want to take over a lease with those that need to get out of a car lease. You can list your lease online and see if someone else would like to take over the agreement. Of course they will have to meet the requirements of your leasing agent such as a good credit record.

There are some other options such as selling the vehicle and using the proceeds to pay off the lease. There is also a way to negotiate an early buyout. You might want to buy your car and own it outright sooner than the end of the agreement. If you are near the end of your lease agreement, sometimes you will be allowed to trade into a new lease through the same leasing company.

Everyone's situation is different and sometimes after weighing all the considerations, holding onto the car and continue in the agreement may be the best decision.

Mobile Auto Services Should Look Into Hybrid Work Trucks and Vans to Stay Green

Okay so, it obviously costs more to own a hybrid work truck or van, but sometimes it can pay dividends in more than just the fuel economy saved. Generally, when business people make a decision to invest in business equipment they consider many factors such as; tax depreciation, reliability, cost, insurance, maintenance, operational expenses, performance, capacity, and most of all will it do the job they need it for. Now then, I'd like to discuss a mobile auto service type business and the decision to buy a hybrid vehicle over a regular vehicle.

Besides all the criteria in the decision matrix above, one should also consider the advertising and marketing value of being a "green company" when it comes to customer and client perception because if you have a hybrid it speaks volumes about your business and beliefs, thus, it could very well add business to your book. Most US citizens and therefore, most of your customers do care about the environment or have bought into the whole environmental movement.

If they see your company as one with their beliefs, then you win, and you have a better chance over the competition if your delivery or service vehicles are hybrid. Still, it's getting rather hard these days to find a superb choice for a hybrid van, even though there are several available if you do some checking around. Still, there are fewer choices than there once were, even at a time when fuel prices are once again near an all time high.

According to CNN Money Online News (March 1, 2012) there was an article titled; "Hybrid maker Bright Automotive goes bust," by James O'Toole, which stated;

"Hybrid vehicle maker Bright Automotive has announced plans to close, blasting the Department of Energy for failing to finalize a loan that the firm says would have kept it afloat."

Apparently, the CEO of the company stated that "they were withdrawing their application for a $314 million loan and winding down their operations, as they had been strung along for the past few years as the government insisted on increasingly stringent loan requirements. "The actions -- or better said 'lack of action' -- by your team means hundreds of great manufacturing and technical jobs... and thousands of indirect jobs in Indiana and Michigan will not see the light of day," the letter said."

This is quite problematic, because these are awesome little vans, and if you go to their website, you will see just how state-of-the-art these vans really are. As a former franchisor of automotive service businesses, if I were still running the company today, I would have seriously looked into these vans for our company. You see, they would save in fuel, they look cool, and they are hybrids and green-friendly meaning it would attract more business. It's therefore unfortunate that they will not be available in the future, or that the company is cutting production presently.

Indeed, I hope you will be able to find an alternative choice for a company work truck or van in your automotive service business, and that you will consider some of what I've noted here today. Please think on it.

Why Learn to Drive????

For many, learning to drive is an unnecessary expense - something that takes away from the fun that they could be having with their money when they are a teenager. But the fact is that, although driving lessons can be costly, they are vital if you want to make your way successfully in the world. Below are a few reasons why this is truly the case...

The first reason why learning to drive is very important for a teenager is because it provides freedom from having to rely on parents for lifts everywhere - something that they won't be able to rely on when they fly the nest and head to university, or move out on their own. Many people without driving licenses are forced to use public transport, which has a couple of massive drawbacks in comparison to cars - it is notoriously unreliable and also it is incredibly expensive. A bus ticket for a 5 minutes journey, for example, can cost as much as £2.50 in some areas! This is far more than the cost of petrol for this distance!

Employment prospects can also be incredibly limited if you don't have a driving license. This isn't just for jobs that require them, such as the police or ambulance service, but also for jobs that are situated away from your home. In this current economic climate more and more people have to commute longer distances, and if you don't have a driving license you will be restricted to hunting for jobs in your immediate area, which will often be a fruitless exercise.

The final reason why learning to drive is worth the money for a teenager is the social life that it will bring! You'll be able to go with mates on daytrips and stay out past the time that parents will agree to pick you up, and you'll also be the envy of many of our friends too! Although this isn't the most important reason to learn to drive in the long term, many teenagers use it as their main motivation for getting their driving license!

As can be seen, the number of reasons for learning to drive should make it something that every single teenager should aim to achieve. Even if there are some short term sacrifices in what you can spend your money on, it will certainly be more than worth it in the long term, when you are fully independent and not having to rely on anyone for your transportation needs

3 Things to Do When You Have Your New Car

Purchasing a new car is one of the most exciting times in a person's life. I'm sure everyone has a story to tell when they bought their first car. Many would agree that we live in a time where our economy is up and down and buying a car is now a major personal investment. With that knowledge you want to keep your car looking its best as long as you can. There are some inexpensive methods that you can do without the help of an outside company to keep your car looking brand new. Like anything that is made it will lose its original look over time; however, you can slow the process down with a few helpful hints.

The first method for protecting your car is purchasing a traditional car cover. Depending on where you live, the outdoors can be inviting to some, but it can be very harmful to your vehicle's exterior and interior finish. Using a car cover helps maintains your vehicle's appearance and at the same time keeps all of the attention on how good it looks. The sun plays a huge factor in how long your car looks good. Just imagine going to the beach or pool and not wearing sun screen lotion. Our skin will start to peel and lose its smooth touch. The same goes for a car. Due to the intensity of the Sun you must protect your car from blemishes and minor cracks. When a car is affected by this, you often see a break in the paint as if it was painted in layers. The cover helps prevent dirt and dust from penetrating the vehicle's paint, and the hard to wash cracks and crevices.

Car covers will also help maintain the "just washed" look between washes, prevent scratches, some door dents and people's prying eyes. Although it attracts unwanted attention, it's still a great option. The covers for your car will also help keep birds from pooping, animals from jumping on and off leaving claw stretches and tree debris from leaving their marks on your vehicle. They also work well in your home garage or parking garage at work.

Keeping your car washed on the regular is another thing you can do to maintain your vehicle. Most people wash their cars at least once a week depending on where you live and if it rains there often. Car wash companies recommend you washing your car at least twice a month, if not more. More and more people make Sunday mornings to wash the car a family tradition. Others prefer to wash their cars on a Saturday. If you avoid washing your car, things like bugs, dirt, bird droppings and dust can damage the paint over time and leave permanent stains. Not to mention the feeling of driving a dirty car not being good for personal confidence. There's a popular saying that your car and trunk is sometimes a reflection of someones life. A clean and fresh smelling car gives a person a renewed energy or power.

One of the last things to do is stopping people and yourself from eating in your car. This is probably the biggest factor. It happens all too often where you start by snacking on chips, candy or other little foods in the car and then it progress to burgers, chicken and other finger foods leaving stains from spilled food. It's always the little foxes, better known as crumbs, that destroy everything from seats to mats to the carpet. You can see them in all of the little compartments, crevices and pressed into the interior. Since we live in an era where the best thing to eat is fast food, it always leaves behind crumbs. Take the time to eat prior to getting into your car.

There are other ways to help keep your car looking new. Depending on where you live, you must decide what will work for you to protect your car.

Making Driving a Little Easier

As we age, our physical condition naturally starts to decline. It's said that between the ages of 30 and 70, our range of motion declines by 20 to 30 percent. After age 70, this declination accelerates to around 50 percent less spinal mobility. This might not seem like a big deal at first, but it really is, especially when it comes to driving. Poor spinal and neck movement ranges can increase the risk of getting into an auto accident. Lessened mobility in the neck can more than double the risk of a car accident amongst these folk. Luckily the majority of these accidents are not fatal. Still, the risk is high enough that something needs to be done to help the elderly maintain their independence.

Advances in automobile technology have come up with a solution to this. Automatic car parking systems can help to eliminate the need for an elderly driver to keep turning their head. If the driver truly has poor mobility, this feature in a car is undisputedly a huge benefit for them.

These systems can detect if a parking space is large enough for your vehicle to fit inside. If you are in search of a parking spot, you simply push a button and the system does the looking for you. A message will sound for you to stop the car once the system has detected that your car will fit within a space. The machine walks drivers through the parking process; you just need to follow the commands that are prompted. When the car tells you to put the car in reverse, you do so and the rest of the work is basically done. The car can sense where obstacles are such as other cars and the curb. The steering wheel will spin on its own and park the car with minimal effort on your behalf. You just need to put the car in gear and follow directions. The driver still maintains control of the accelerator and the brake, so you can still use these functions of your car if you wish.

While all of the kinks are not yet worked out of these parking systems, they provide a huge positive service for the elderly. They can help minimize the amount of mobility necessary for city driving. Still, it is important that the person driving be in good enough physical and mental health for them to get behind the wheel. If you feel like your elderly relative is unable to drive, it's still important that you have this difficult conversation with them. But if the amount of hindering factors is minimal, a smart parking service within their car might be just the thing they need to keep driving themselves.

Tow Truck Services and Car Lock Outs

Being locked out of your car is not only a stressful obstacle, but it can be scary (and dangerous!) if you are in the wrong part of town. Do you have a plan "B" if you find yourself on the outside looking in? It is always smart to have a backup plan in order in case you end up in this situation. If you need help with car lock outs or roadside assistance, a tow truck company can help. That's right, not only are they your worst enemy when illegally parked, but they are your best friend in time of emergency.

At some point in your life you are bound to have an experience with a tow truck. Businesses and homeowners are two examples of people who personally appreciate their services. People who are illegally parked or taking up parking spots that are assigned for customers or guests SHOULD be moved. This is why there are blatant signs for areas that are protected by towing companies. If there is a sign, that company can legally tow your car. Homeowners have rights to call tow companies too! If there is a car blocking a driveway or in a paid/assigned parking spot, then the illegally parked car can expect that they will be removed with just one phone call to a tow company.

Another time when these services are crucial is when you have a break down and are stuck pulled off to the side of the road. A tow truck can come safely transport your car to wherever you need it to go...whether that destination be home or an auto repair company. These services are available 24/7 in case of emergency. This is why it is smart to have a local tow company's number stored in your phone so you aren't forced to leave your car unattended.

The same company that can take your car away from a scene, can help you get inside of the vehicle in case of a lock out. When you call them for assistance they are prepared for all car makes and models. You have to show proof that it is your car and before their arrival they will ask you which year, make, and model you drive. This is so they know the correct tools to bring to help unlock the vehicle.

In order to be safe, consider storing a local tow and lock out company's number in your phone. Not only are they ready to help keep businesses happy, but they can help bring you and you vehicle to safety.

The Best Hybrid Cars - Why You Should Buy Them

The recent Political unrest in the Middle East have had a cascading effect on the global fuel supply and prices. The rising fuel prices have only added to the average consumers' woes, compelling them to resort to the use of fuel-efficient vehicles. To provide respite to consumers, the auto industry has introduced several hybrid cars, which are not only fuel efficient but environmentally friendly as well. These cars come equipped with a gas as well as an electric engine that allows you to alternate between the two. This unique trait makes it a very cost effective proposition for the average consumer. In this article, you will find 5 reasons why you should choose hybrid cars over fuel-powered vehicles.

1. Decreased expenditure - When you invest in a hybrid car, you no longer need to deal with the burden of fuel expenditure. These cars come fitted with two engines fueled by gas and electricity. When the gas supply in your car gets exhausted, it automatically switches to its electric power backup. The presence of an alternative source of energy in your car significantly cuts down on your fuel expenditure and you are able to save a lot of money in the process.

2. Better mileage and performance - Hybrid cars were designed with the objective of delivering a better output and mileage for the consumer. This is made possible by the use of a combined propulsion system in the steering mechanism of the cars. These cars are especially useful if you commute less than 40 miles a day, in that case you could save immensely on your gas consumption by utilizing the electric engine instead.

3. Safe and durable - One of the most notable features that is common to these cars in the market is that they rank high in terms of safety and durability. They are conceived using cutting edge technology that renders them extremely safe for travel. Additionally, the small size of these cars make them easy to maneuver, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.

4. Efficiency plus - Hybrid cars come equipped with the latest technology that makes them highly efficient vehicles. All such cars have on-board computers, which regulate and monitor the efficiency of both engines. Depending on your fuel levels, the inbuilt computer would alternate between gas and electricity at an increased efficiency that is not common to conventional fuel empowered vehicles.

5. Environmentally friendly - Another compelling reason to choose a hybrid car over a fuel-powered one is that it is safer for the environment. Global warming and climate change are a real and impending threat today. These cars are a greener choice as they come equipped with zero-emission features. This significantly reduces the combustion processes of gasoline and prevents the formation of toxic pollutants that are harmful to the environment.

Some of the best hybrid cars that are highly sought after in the markets today include the Toyota Prius and the Chevrolet Volt, which have earned rave reviews on account of their versatility, fuel efficiency and utility.

Fuel Prices Steer Consumers Toward Compact Cars

In Australia, the Holden Commodore was dethroned in 2011 as the continent's top-selling car for the past 15 years by the Mazda 3. And in the U.S., Ford announced that their world car, the Ford Focus, had become one of their top-selling vehicles. These are both fuel-efficient cars. It's apparent that people who buy a car nowadays have fuel efficiency foremost in their minds. Coinciding with this is the news that in the first quarter of 2012, fuel prices have breached record levels all around the world. A recent news article even revealed the results of a study which showed families eating less at mid to upscale restaurants just to accommodate their fuel budget.

Consumers are not abandoning their cars yet, and most cannot just switch to lifestyles that take a car out of the equation. We are too dependent on cars for that. Fortunately for people who need to buy a car, manufacturers from Toyota to Mercedes, even Porsche, have responded by offering much more fuel-efficient cars and, in Mercedes' case, even hydrogen-powered cars. So, we can rest easy that cars are here to stay. What is clearly evident though is that big thirsty V8s will disappear as a mainstream engine and that alternative fuels and technologies will combine to make gasoline a less critical factor in a car owner's budget.

Although people who buy a car for everyday commuting couldn't care less, it's noteworthy that even BMW, has downsized the engines on all their flagship performance cars like the new M5. The 2012 BMW M5 now has a V8, compared to its predecessor which was equipped with a V10 derived from the company's Formula 1 racing efforts. While having an output of 500 horsepower, the V10 was not one of the more fuel-efficient cars. Most owners described it as being a pig when it came to guzzling fuel. The latest M5 sports 560 horsepower yet consumes 40% less fuel. Even the Ford Explorer, which had an average fuel consumption rating of 17 MPG when it first came out is now rated at 28 MPG. At the other end of the spectrum, diesels are making a comeback and giving electric vehicles a run for their money. The benefit of the newest crop of diesel over EVs is that you don't need to hunt for charging stations and the performance of the latest diesel variants rival that of gasoline engines from just a decade back. As a fuel-efficient car, diesels have a lot going for them nowadays.

So there is hope for car enthusiasts, as well commuters, who want to buy a car. Cars aren't going away anytime soon, and the convenience, necessity and enjoyment that we have enjoyed since the first Ford rolled off the assembly line will be with us for the foreseeable future. As consumers of mass-produced vehicles however, it is your responsibility to buy fuel-efficient cars and promote technologies that reduce the global dependency on volatile fuel supplies.

5 Tips On How To Buy A Fuel Efficient Car

With the global economy on the downswing, there has been a sporadic rise in fuel prices over the last couple of years. According to industry experts, this trend seems to show no signs of abating and will continue, given the increasing demand for fuel. Hence, if you are planning on investing in a new car, it would make perfect sense to settle for a vehicle that consumes less fuel and delivers more mileage. Buying a fuel efficient car would prove to be a cost effective investment in the long run as it would help you conserve a lot of money in fuel costs. In this article, we have mentioned 5 tips that will help you make an informed choice in buying a fuel efficient car.

1. The size and engine - Take a moment to consider your daily travel requirements. Is the car meant for personal use or does your family also avail of it? If they do, then you should take into account the number of co-passengers that would be traveling along with you daily. In this regard, you should figure out the ideal boot space you need from your prospective car. You should also consider whether it would be a viable vehicle for making a short or long commute. All these factors would collectively determine the size of your car and its engine.

2. The model and make - Most of us have our own favorite car brands. However, it is best not to be biased by our individual predilections and stress on the utility and cost factor instead. Also consider how often you would require the use of special features such as two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. In this case always opt for the former as two-wheel drive vehicles are more fuel-efficient.

3. Mileage and fuel consumption - This is the most important aspect in your purchasing decision - the fuel efficiency of the car. Check the fuel consumption label on the car. Compare the cars of your choice on the basis of their fuel consumption and hone in on the one with the lowest consumption levels.

4. Take a test drive - After selecting the most suitable car for your requirements, be sure to check it out first hand. Most car dealers allow you to take a test drive before actually making the purchase. Take the car out for a spin to get a better understanding of its reliability. If it is a used car, ensure to have it inspected by a mechanic to determine its level of maintenance and fuel efficiency.

5. Drive carefully and efficiently - Even though you might have a fuel efficient car, at the end of the day it all depends on the way you drive it. Keep abreast of driving tips and tricks that would help you conserve fuel and save on the maintenance of your car.

In addition to conserving fuel and cutting down on your gas expenditure, buying a fuel efficient car is also a very environmentally friendly proposition. When you buy a fuel efficient car, you would do your bit for the environment while saving on your budget.

Leather vs Cloth Seats - It's a Personal Preference

Leather vs cloth seats is a choice each driver must make when purchasing their next vehicle. The choice of the interior comes down to cow versus manufactured cloth and can sometimes be a difficult choice.

This is because each offers benefits and pit falls.

Some of the benefits of leather...

Leather offers a soft, supple feeling while driving down the road. It is a comfy fit for your bottom.

Additionally since leather is a more expensive choice, it is often a sign of prestige and luxury. For those whose car is a reflection on their being or their status, leather offers a sense of class to the driver.

The additional cost of leather upholstery you pay up front can be a benefit when it is time to sell your vehicle.

Typically, leather brings a greater resale value.

Oh! And there is nothing better than the distinct rich aroma of new leather interior in a car, truck or SUV.

Yippee! Rawhide!

The downside of leather...

It requires more maintenance to keep the leather conditioned and supple. If leather seats are your choice, you should regularly clean them and put a leather conditioner on the interior so that the leather does not crack.

Another drawback is the comfort. In extreme heat, the seats can be almost too hot to handle. The opposite is also true, in extreme cold weather the seats take quite a bit of time to warm up. So with leather, prepare to have your buns toasted or frozen depending on the weather.

Also because leather seats may be slippery, take caution when entering so that you don't find yourself under the dashboard!

Now, let's take a look at the benefits of cloth...

First, there is the affordability factor. Cloth seats will cost you less than leather and will yield a slightly lower resale value than its counterpart - leather.

With cloth, you can avoid some of the haphazard while trying to enter the car. Because cloth is a more breathable choice, it typically stays the same temperature year around. No burnt or frozen buns with cloth. As well, you have a better chance of entering the car and remaining on the seat as you round corners.

Now, the pitfalls of cloth...

Your cloth seats may not earn you the same respect you would get with leather seats. If you are looking to impress, leather would be a much better choice.

Cloth tends to get dirty easier and absorb stains more easily. Likewise odors can be easily locked into the fibers of the cloth. Smells such as pets or smoking tend to make themselves comfortable in cloth interiors. This can negatively affect your resale value as well.

Now that we have discussed some of the aspects regarding leather vs cloth seats, it is best to look at your own personal situation. Consider the use of the car, the mileage you travel each month and the ability to maintain the car's interior. The final decision is yours.

Writing About New Cars

It seems like whenever you search any major auto show from any site, there are generally always wonderful pictorials along with articles regarding the new auto models that happen to be coming out and about on the internet. People wish to read these kinds of content online. In fact, these good articles can be quite commonly found, and generally rank way up there on the top sites and current news. Okay, let's take a second to discuss this topic and improve how we can get an article to the top.

If you need to create stellar content concerning a brand-new car style, then there are a number of things that need to be in your current articles. These are exactly the stuff people are trying to find, and I'm not simply talking in regards to commenting on the nice drink holder inside the center console in the new hybrid fancy car. Yes, that is certainly important. But the fact that the car can go from 0 to 60 in a couple seconds in a very high-performance car is certainly more desirable than the ability to place their Frappuccino anywhere in the car.

So of course, by most means you'll want to mention that, but besides that, everyone is also considering other issues. Things such as acceleration, rate, horsepower, functionality, and handling... but most importantly they're considering fuel overall economy. You have to have all those key elements in the article you select, especially just about any new auto model part. Further, you will definitely have to shell out a little extra time with your current wording and phrasing, plus the description. You may use lots of time involving adjectives for you to adequately illustrate what it seems like to sit inside car, hear the electric motor, and travel it all-around. People would definitely like to know beforehand.

You will need to remember everyone is buying cars as they are an extension of their unique personality. You'll want to describe the automobile as if you would your very own significant other along with their uniqueness. People would like to know about your "feel" in the car. When you discuss the many features, and the many key things, and you invest time and thought into your work... That's how you write the informational content on brand-new car types.

If anyone posts articles that happen to be done using this method online, you will definitely just know that they get a great deal of traffic, a great deal of interest, a great deal of high evaluations, and you may notice inward links... besides, isn't that the true objective of an online content composer? Indeed, I'm hoping you will picture this, with no over-hyping straight into each motor vehicle article that you may decide to type up in the future.

Nightmare on the Highway - What to Do When You Have a Flat and There's No Spare in the Trunk

Here's a scary thought- your car has a flat tire and you find there's no spare in the trunk. Well, this isn't all that unusual because guess what a lot of automakers did while we were sleeping - they eliminated the spare tire to reduce car weight and improve fuel usage! In addition, some automakers have been quietly substituting "run flat" tires for regular tires. The run flat tires are supposed to be good for driving when flat for about 50 miles at 50 miles per hour. Only thing wrong with that is driving those 50 miles normally destroys your tire, necessitating buying a new tire. And what if it's very late at night and there are no open service stations within those 50 miles.

Situations like this underline the need to carry your own emergency auto repair kit, in case auto road service is too far away or you are nowhere near an open service station. Ideally, you should carry a car battery jump starter with an air compressor, as well as a tube of tire sealant, at least 3 hazard signs and a tire gauge.

If you have no spare tire, you need to re-inflate or fix your existing tire wherever you are.

Safety First

Put on your flashing lights and if you have emergency hazard signs, put one about 25 feet back from your car, and as far out towards the middle of the road to mark the outer edge of your car. The second should be back around 100 feet and closer to the edge of the road. The third should be back around 200 feet back at the edge of the highway.

Conventional wisdom is that you only need to put out your hazard warning signs if one of your left side tires is flat and you are kneeling down in the actual roadway to begin to repair the flat tire. Absolutely wrong!Even though you are on the other side of the car from the road, you can be seriously injured and even killed by a rear end collision by a driver who didn't notice your car. As a further precaution get your passengers out of the car and safely away from the roadway.

Start the Actual Tire Repair

Take off the tire's valve cap and start to re-inflate your flat tire with your car battery jump starter system with a built-in air compressor. Inflate the tire a bit. Stop, look and listen. Does it go flat again fairly quickly? Do you hear it hissing? If so, the odds are pretty good that you have a puncture. If you have a puncture, and not a huge one, there is another handy item in your kit - your tire sealant. This temporarily repairs flats in tubeless tires caused by punctures up to a quarter-inch. Inflate your tire up to its normal pressure - use your tire gauge to make certain. It may take running the car for a short distance to "spread" the goo properly inside the tire. If so, pull over at the first safe spot and check the air pressure. If you need to, top up the tire. Once you get back on the road, or home again, it would be a good idea to have a competent service station take a look at the tire that went flat.

Finding Cheap Bike Racks Isn't Easy

Bike racks are a necessity if you want to go anywhere with your bike. Unfortunately these items do not come cheaply. In fact many people find them to be a bit out of their price range. Of course there are some ways that you can find cheaper rakes but you need to be careful because quality is just as important as cost.

Where to look for bike racks

The most logical place to start your search for cheap bike racks would be your local bike store. The problem with this is that their items are often expensive. You can try waiting until they have a sale or you could browse other options. One of these options is going to your car part store. A bike rack is an accessory that these stores will sell. If you do not want to go down this route then you can always look for these items online.

A car bike rack can be very expensive

If you are looking at a quality car bike rake then you will find that they do cost a fair bit. However, the price will vary depending on such things like brand and type. Certain bike racks and carriers will be cheaper than others. One of the cheaper types is a roof mounted carrier. Other factors that will make the carrier more expensive will be the number of bikes it can carry and what it is made of. These items are made to carry anywhere from one to three bikes.

Places to look for a cheap bike rack

It is possible to find a cheap bike rack if you know where to look. One of the best places to find a deal on these items is auction sites and classified ads. There is one major problem that can be faced when using these methods. This is that the item will most likely be second hand. This does not mean that you will not be able to get new items using these methods but it is not guaranteed. Online stores are probably your best option for new, cheap racks. Many online stores have sales or lower prices in an attempt to get more customers. If you do go with the online stores then it is best that you read all the terms particularly the amount you may have to pay for shipping. There is no point in going with the online store if the price you pay for shipping makes the item the same price as another store.

The quality of your bicycle carrier

When looking at cheap goods you have to think about quality. Many cheaper items sacrifice quality to reduce their costs. This can be very bad as it can negatively affect your bike. One of the problems that come from poor quality items is rust which affects the structural integrity of the whole item. Additionally poor quality could affect your car as the means of connection may be faulty or incorrect.

It can be harder than you think to find a cheap bike rack. The reason for this is that most good quality racks will cost a fair bit. When looking at your bike rack you will want to make sure that the quality is good as well as the price.

What to Do When Your Car Radio Has No Power

One of the worst things that can happen if you're on a long drive is your car radio not turning on. Believe it or not this happens to a lot of people for a number of reasons. There are a few easy things you can do in order to check what the problem is and fix it. Some of these steps will require additional tools or special knowledge.

Check your car radio connections

Almost all car radios come with faces that detach for security. However, this security measure can over time cause a number of problems. The most important is that the connections on the face will wear and not longer connect properly. This should be the first thing to look at if your car radio does not turn on when you want it too.

Cleaning your car audio connections

If you find that the connections on your radio's face are still fine the problem may be that they are dirty. While you might think a bit of dirt can harm the connection it does cause major problems. Dirt build up can create a film thin film on the connection which disrupts the flow of the current needed to power the radio.

When in doubt reset

If you find that the connections for you radio are working perfectly then try resetting the unit. The position of the reset button will vary depending on the unit. It is best to check your manual best you start looking for the reset button. While you are looking at the manual you may find that there are other operational instructions which could also be leading to this problem. It is best to note that not all car radios come with a reset button so this may not be an option you can follow.

Look at how much power the radio is getting

If your car radio is not turning on at all then it may not be receiving any power from your car's electrics. For this method you will need to have either a power probe or a test light. These tools will tell you if there is any current getting to the radio. It is important that you check the radio fuse before you do any other testing. The radio fuse is in the car's fuse box but you need to check you manual to find out which one it is. The problem may just be a blown fuse which simply needs to be replaced.

When all else fails

If you have done all you can but cannot find the problem then you do have a final option. When all else fails it's time to take your car to a radio specialist. These people will be able to find out what is wrong and fix it. With this solution you will be able to find out if there is a fault with your radio unit that cannot be fixed.

If you find that your car radio is not longer working then you can do something about it. By checking certain aspects you will be able to determine what the problem is. If you are not able to then you should consider going to a professional.

Are Run Flat Tyres a Good or Bad Choice?

Some leading manufacturers are developing the adaption of using run flat tyres in the line up of their vehicles. This allows some advantages for the owner of the vehicle but like anything it comes with certain disadvantages. The main purpose for this added feature is the ability to drive a short amount of distance after suffering a puncture in the tyre to make it to a service station.

Doesn't this sound great? You could be driving down the road, following a vehicle, when something falls off the vehicle in front of you and with no time to react. PPUUUUFFF! You don't have time to change a tire or really don't want to be out on this busy commute road attempting to fix your problem with motorist wheezing by.

So sure there are advantages to running these tyres. Like being able to continue along for a short amount to time until you can get to a safe service station to make repairs before a blow out happens. It is much easier to keep clean and have someone else do the work while you wait the short amount of time to get back on the road and on schedule. Even better, maybe you're a person that needs the cargo room in the trunk of your car where usually the spare tyre is stored. With these special tyres there shouldn't be any need to carry a spare along with you. This would allow you to use that most precious cargo room to your personal use.

As stated before, with everything there are certain disadvantages. To start with, what if you are on a trip or commute where the nearest service station is not as near as you would wish? These tyres will keep you running for a short amount of time, but like any tyre they will eventually breakdown causing you the need to replace the entire tyre. This could become costly if you have too many flats. Worst yet if you run too long on a flat tyre you could easily damage the rim and have the need to replace this costly feature that wouldn't need to be done otherwise. This could all be prevented as long as you keep the spare tyre in the vehicle and change it out if you have a long distance to go after an incident. Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of using these tyres? If you kept the spare and used it to prevent damage you would lose that extra cargo space, still have to change the tyre, and be right where you were before purchasing these tyres.

So as long as you have many service stations along your route or at least get a punctured tyre close to one, run flat tyres would be a good purchase for you. Otherwise, the wait for better technology with these tyres may be worthwhile.
